Steady Hands for a Storage Building Brand That Needed Someone To Take the Wheel

Miller’s Storage Buildings · Local Shed Builder · Fishersville, Virginia

How Northwest Creative rebuilt Miller’s Storage Buildings’ marketing after loss, and grew reach without losing what made them trusted in the first place.

THE CHALLENGE

Miller's Storage Buildings had spent years building genuine trust in the Fishersville, Virginia community, largely through radio and a steady presence at events like the county fair.

That trust was real, but when their longtime advertising vendor passed away, the systems that had been running behind the scenes went with him, there was no handoff plan.

No one expects to need a backup plan. What was left fell to Miller's office manager, who was already stretched thin running daily operations and had neither the marketing background nor the bandwidth to manage ad spend, watch analytics, or make strategic calls. Campaigns kept running, but no one was actually steering them.

THE APPROACH

I didn't walk in assuming everything needed to be torn down and rebuilt. My first move was to understand what had already worked. I pulled historical data, talked with existing vendors, and sat down with the Miller's team to hear how they'd built the brand awareness they already had.

What I found was a business with strong local recognition built almost entirely on radio and event sponsorships, and room to grow beyond it.

I made the case for increasing their marketing budget, and they trusted me enough to say yes. From there, I introduced channels they'd never tested — Google Ads, Spotify Ads, and digital placements through local media outlets — while keeping the radio presence that had earned their reputation in the first place.

I also took over their Google Business Profile, which had been sitting untouched.

Miller's Storage Buildings has been a trusted name in the Fishersville, Virginia area for building high-quality storage sheds, but the marketing behind that name was never meant to run without a steward.

When their advertising vendor passed away in 2022, Miller's lost the one person who understood their campaigns, their spend, and their strategy — with no one internally positioned to pick it back up.

Northwest Creative stepped in as their ongoing retainer partner, starting with an audit of what existed and a conversation about where the brand wanted to grow. What followed wasn't a reinvention of Miller's identity, but an expansion of it, testing new advertising channels alongside the radio and event sponsorships that had built their reputation, cleaning up their digital presence, and taking day-to-day ownership of decisions that had gone unmanaged for too long.

Nearly three years later, the partnership is still active, still evolving, and now extending into new territory: a custom shed configurator that will let customers design their own building online before they ever set foot on the lot.

What We Improved

Results & Impact

Since I took over, Miller's website traffic has grown substantially: active users are up 152% and new users are up 154%, with engagement time up 2%. Paid traffic specifically has driven active users up 107% and new users up 109% year-to-date, with engagement time up 154%.

What matters underneath the numbers is this: for the first time since their original vendor passed away, Miller's has someone watching the data, testing new channels deliberately, and making decisions based on what's actually working… not just what's always been done.

OUTCOME

What began as filling an urgent gap has grown into one of my longest-running retainer partnerships. Miller's Storage Buildings now has a marketing strategy that's actively managed across paid, local, and print channels, visibility into what's driving results, and a team that no longer has to wonder who's watching the ads.

The relationship continues to grow. The upcoming shed configurator is proof that this isn't a maintenance retainer, it's a partnership still finding new ways to serve Miller's customers.
